Andrea Petracca began his studies in classical percussion at the O.Respighi Conservatory of music, graduating with top marks.
He later continued his educational journey at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where he obtained, two years later, a first-level Master's degree.
He completed his academic studies with an advanced specialization course at the Scuola di Musica Di Fiesole.
Since 2016, he's worked as a timpanist and percussionist under the baton of conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta, John Eliot Gardiner, Daniele Gatti, Gianandrea Noseda, Wayne Marshall and many more and with orchestras including Teatro Alla Scala, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Netherlands Philarmonic Orchestra, Radio Philarmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, North Netherlands Orchestra, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Petruzzelli, Teatro comunale di Bologna, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, OPV and Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
Alongside his orchestral activity, since 2020, he has developed a parallel path focused on the design and construction of musical instruments, aimed at creating professional products.
His research is based on innovation achieved through simplicity and functionality developed in close collaboration with professional players, gathering ideas and other opinions while maintaining a clear and personal vision of the final result.
This process led to the creation of the brand PETRA Percussive Crafts, which focuses on continuous experimentation with materials and techniques. The goal is to offer percussionists instruments they can truly feel as their own, both in sound and in aesthetic identity.
